I am currently on a MacBook Pro. I play MapleStory using Windows 10 via bootcamp. It's all good, no problem, but I would like MapleStory to be 100% compatible with XOS like some big games, as LeagueOfLegend for example. So I could do stuffs I usually do in my Mac's partition and open MapleStory at the same time.
I am sure you guys already think about it since all this time. So if you guys deffinitely chose to abort the idea, whatever the raison is, like the trouble of getting people who knows how to code in XOS, or to change the huge game's code, could you please let me know in this forum please ? Also, if you guys didn't abort the idea, could I get informed about what's up actually please ?
Thx chu
P.S.: sry for my english, french peeps here.
EDIT: Parallels* and not 'Paraelle'

They haven't even gotten it to run right on Windows yet.
  • You could always run it with Wine. Makes things a whole lot easier then whatever you are doing.

Hello. What's 'Wine' ? Is it some programme to run Windows' apps on Mac or something ?
  • They're not going to make an OSX-native client. There isn't a large enough portion of players running it to make it worth the time.
Here are some threads on the matter from the old forums:

There might be more, but honestly it's after 2 in the morning for me, and I don't really care enough to dig deeply into the mess that is the old forums.

yes, that's exactly what it is.
Maplestory uses Windows only resources to run the client, and I dont think they will rebuild/ recode the client and game just to make it compatible with mac.
The last time I used WIne (years ago) it suffered from visual lag and input lag with whatever game I was using it for on a friends mac laptop, so you might be better off with your current setup, but I havnt used WIne in years (cause I haven't needed to)

    Hello
This isn't a priority, I understand why you would want this to happen though.
During the October event period, the Escaped Moon Bunny world boss spawns at the following times:
NA West: 02:30 AM - 05:30 AM UTC
NA East: 11:30 PM - 02:30 AM UTC
South America: 10:30 PM - 01:30 AM UTC
Europe: 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM UTC
Oceania: 08:30 AM – 11:30 AM UTC

Mac Support

It's likely a bit much to ask for. Seeing as there usually hasn't been much aside from Windows.
But as a player who's been around since the early days of balrogs attacking the ship, and someone
who's love maplestory over the years. I feel a bit left out now that I've moved over to Mac.
I know of bootcamp, and setting up a virtual machine, but I wanted to ask about/suggest Mac support in
general.

  • I have a lot of friends with Macs so I definitely support this but unfortunately, like all of Nexon's games (to my knowledge) they won't be compatible with MS2

As much as I am saddened by hearing that; I do still have boot camping windows 7 onto my mac as a last resort. Hoping I won't have to do that, but we'll see.

    That's what I did when I played MS2 last year, I thought it ran fine. The only problem that happened with me was that every time I would boot my Mac into Window's my IP address would change and I eventually got banned from the IP address constantly changing. ><;

I did it about a year or 2 ago myself to play maplestory 1, and try the 200+ end game. Got too grindy, and I started to run low on computer space, and shut it all down. Maplestory 2's looking to make me redo it, but I'd hoped to avoid it with how much space it eats up.

I used CrossOver back in the day and it worked reasonably okay. Not sure how it is these days.

  • Has anybody figured out how to run it via wine yet?
(I know bootcamp works, but i prefer to use wine if possible)
  • Sadly no, WineHQ also rated playability/overall rating to 'Garbage', there was one version with a 'hacked' client, but this is also not legal and got shut down i think. There is also no Super Maintainer. There is almost no community around MS2 with wine (sadly). Maybe in the Future tho, wen the game became more popular in the west. I guess for now your safest way is to use bootcamp.
FeelsBadMan for all us Unix users.
    *EDIT*
Just rembemberd that the mentioned client also was for MS1, there is actually even less community for MS2 with wine than MS1

Worth some testing when the CBT is being released, but would probably involve some quick&dirty exceptions. MapleStory (2) just isn't supported, and the anti-cheating software will probably see Wine (or alternative) as an intrusion, so block the usage.
  • The mac client-base for gaming has been severely underestimated, and thousands of us have spent money to enjoy MapleStory and upcoming MapleStory 2 through an unsupported, unofficial mac client. After continually supporting Nexon and the MapleStory community, we have only come upon patch after patch that seems to specifically target us mac users to render our clients useless.
Boot Camp is a feature of Mac OS X that lets you start up your Mac in Windows. If you have already installed Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP on your Mac using Boot Camp, you may then only be able to play MapleStory or MapleStory 2 on your Mac.
While MapleStory does not provide native macOS support, providing your Boot Camp partition with as much storage as possible, as the game and operating system will take a considerable amount of space - MapleStory is 14GB while Windows 10 requires around 20GB. Admittedly you can change the size of your partition once you’ve installed Windows 10, but it can create issues.
It is time for some appreciation for mac OS X gamers!
  • Definitely agree with this! Mac users get no love!
  • I support it, but because of history I just don't think it's going to happen, and it's a shame.

It's been 15 years. History needs to be progressive. MapleStory has always been a community-based game. We are missing a good chunk of our community if we cannot provide the accessibility of a native client.

I agree, I am really hoping that Mac and Linux users would be able to play this, so we have a bigger community and that Nexon will have more income to support their MS2 Servers.
  • This option is usually to difficult for average players and i'm sure they want the game to be easily accessible to all with no complications.
  • Thank you for your feedback! I guess I will start having to partition then..
  • Whenever anti-hacking measures are included, it will more than likely never run emulated. A easy way to do it all would be testing with Crossover for Mac / Linux. You can play Private servers of MS1 on all OSes but thats because of the stuff that stopped it from working in the first place being removed. If they decided to just use Steam entirely with no separate Anti-hack measure, it might work. (But they won't.)
  • Highly doubt that. MS2 would require specs that is beyond Mac's specs. You could bootcamp it though.
  • So it's been a very long time since I've played Maplestory and since then I've moved from a Windows PC to a Macbook. So in preparation for Maplestory 2, can anyone give me advice on what is the best way to play Maplestory on Mac?
